Pitch Meeting 11.30.2019

On November 30, 2019, producers Rhonda and Kourtney met with Dr. Miller to pitch the idea of documenting her foster care experience. Believe it or not, she didn’t think her story was interesting enough. By the end of brunch, she saw the vision, agreed and a filming date was set.

FUN FACT: This project originally started as a six-part docuseries. By our third day of filming we realized a full length 90-minute documentary was more fitting.

Location: Long Beach, CA

First day of filming 12.23.2019

We filmed for three hours on the first day and captured nearly 60% of the films narration.

Fun Fact: Did you notice Starter Nurse Academy written on the board? That’s Dr. Miller’s business! It’s dedicated to helping new grads get hired into competitive residency programs: https://starternurseacademy.teachable.com/

Location: Los Angeles, CA

A Full Circle Moment 6.6.2020

While en route to visit Dr. Miller’s foster mom, Brenda, her biological mom Cynthia realized we were in close proximity to Smith Correctional Facility. We had to see the place up close and personal! Cynthia told stories about the people she met and lessons she learned while at the facility. Once she was released in (enter year) that was it, she started the road to recovery and was never incarcerated again.
